Ambiguity and inconstancy breed controversy, that much is obvious and when it comes to religion controversy leads to conflict. The Bible, in its entirety has been translated in its entirety into 475 languages, and translations of the bible are accepted. The Qur’an is meant to be read only in Arabic, so that the original meaning is kept. This difference is clear when it comes to practice, for example taking a look at a single passage in 2 different editions of the bible, they can be interpreted very differently.

For the sake of this I am looking at Leviticus 18:22 because this is a specific passage that has some controversy around it, as it deals with homosexuality. In The Good News Bible it reads “No man is to have sexual relations with another man, God hates that” This is absolute, and leaves no room for argument on the subject. Compare this to The Revised Standard Bible, which says “You shall not lie with a male as with a woman” This is a lot less absolute, afterall heterosexual sex between a man and a woman, is not the same as sex between 2 men, so this passage could be interpreted differently to the first. The difference is small, probably because they were translated into English from different languages yet this kind of difference is why Christianity can have such extremes of belief, for example Quakers have no problems with homosexuals, whereas Roman Catholics forbid homosexuality. While Islam has a view on homosexuality that I disagree with, they do have a very defined position. Therein lies my problem with a family friend who is against homosexuality, she says the bible forbids it, well it seems that would depend on what copy if the bible you pick up.

Recently I read a news article so absurd I honestly thought they were taking the piss. A man from Virginia in America was arrested for being naked in his own home at 5:30 in the morning. This man was making a coffee in his own kitchen and happened to be naked, simply because no-one else was home. He was arrested because a woman and her child walked past through his from yard. He was charged with indecent exposure and accused of being a pervert because apparently he wanted to be seen. Police were also seeking evidence of anyone else who had seen this man naked because he lived near a bus stop for a school, and indecent exposure in the presence of children would make him a pedophile. If a man isnt allowed to be naked early in the morning when at home alone without being accused of being a pervert or a pedophile is there anything he is allowed to do?

So Steven Moffat deleted his tumblr and now people are fucking pissing their pants over it.  I’ve gone spleunking in the steven moffat tag here and it’s all “omg how could you be so mean to him??” “wow im so disappointed in you fandom you bullied him : (” “oh no you made him feel bad!!” 

Look, I don’t know what comments he got @ his twitter I don’t use twitter much. So I don’t know if it WAS shit that crossed the line - if it was eighty percent death threats by weight, that’s fucked up.  Don’t fucking send death threats to people, that shit is not right. 

But if it was criticism? If it was shame on yous? If it was anger and vitriol and backlash against him?  I fucking hope it made him feel bad.

Making him feel bad was the fucking point. 

It’s hard to be bullied when you’re the executive producer of the longest running science fiction show and one of the most popular and culturally resonant shows in your country. It’s hard to actually consider twitter comments harassment when you are the head writer of your television show, an extremely successful straight white married man who has the ability to be heard. 

You know why people made angry comments about his treatment of women or people of color or LGBT people? Because they’re probably a person who falls into one of those categories.

And they’re probably fans. They’re probably big fucking fans of Doctor Who too. A lot of people are. It’s been around for fifty years.

But try to imagine being a fan - a fervent, ardent, honest fan - of this show, that had influenced you growing up, that had made you curious about a dozen things you never would have heard about otherwise, that had showed you different corners of the world you never would have imagined and finding every character who is supposed to represent you some mawkish cumbersome parody of a person. 

Imagine being a woman who has been a fan since her early adolescence, watching the scene yesterday where Amy tells the Doctor she’s quit multiple jobs because she’s just waiting for him, because that consumes her life. Imagine being this woman and knowing your little baby sister is watching this show. Your little baby sister who is so smart and so tenacious but who loves Doctor Who and who is so easily malleable. And you’re trying to think, how is this going to affect her? How is this going to hurt her? 

Moffat’s just got twitter comments aimed at him. And yeah, online harassment isn’t any fun. But it’s, for him? Just twitter comments. He can turn those off in seconds, he can walk away and that’s it. 

But us? The fans who are angry? The women fans, the gay and bisexual fans, the fans that aren’t white men ages 18-39?

We’ve got an internationally successful and influential piece of science fiction television that has the barrel aimed down our throats, 

telling us in the same breath with the same voice that told us so many wonderful things about ourselves and the universe

that we’re a punchline. a possession. a joke.

I’m real fucking tired of being a joke. 

Or maybe you’re taking things a bit too personally. It’s just a show. You should really just relax.

It’s a show that little kids watch.

It’s a show that teenage girls who want to be astronauts and scientists and writers watch. 

It’s a show that people watch with their families.

It’s a show some people have been watching all their lives.

It’s a show people get excited about, that people obsess and agonize over, that people take to heart. 

It’s a show that some of the most vulnerable, most easily led, most self conscious and self loathing people watch. Religiously. 

It’s just a show, but it’s a show that effects people. 

With that comes responsibility.

Yeah that old “it’s just a show, calm down” excuse is basically never valid. Ever. So stop using it.

Television, and media in general, affect the way people think and act. They have subtle consequences in the real world.

It’s never “just a show” because it doesn’t exist in a social vacuum and neither does it’s audience.

This should not be such a difficult concept to grasp.

Please, people just calm down and enjoy the fact that theyre writing Amy and Rory out of the show soon :D

I’m half-Welsh at the most, but I’ve lived in England all of my life. You spent a year in New Zealand, more commonly known as the Australian Wales, and are now going off to live for three+ years in the original (and best) Wales. They were strong against us, but apparently they’ve declined rapidly since Speed died. They have a few good players, particularly in midfield. Belgium have more.

I think the only thing that is fairly certain is that while there are many teams that could win, England is not one of them

I recently made a post about how I bet on how in one years time I will still be single, now im no idiot, well… im not stupid enough to make a bet that I dont believe I can win, of course thats the idea of betting. In other words I am fairly convinced that I will ‘win’ this bet and end up with free drinks. Now again im not stupid enough to sabotage my life just for a couple of free drinks, after all it would be less effort to buy them myself than to spend a year trying to win them. In other words as I see it now I pretty much could not get a girlfriend in the next year.

This as I see it is due to a combination of two reasons, firstly, I would say that I have low self esteem, but that would be exaggerating, I have no self esteem, as briefly touched upon in other posts this year is the first year since embarking on the education system a little over 14 years ago that I havnt been bullied. The second reason is simple, ive always been a bit of a cunt, that may sound like a stupid way of putting it, but it illustrates my point, at times my social skills, are well lacking.

My first reason is an issue because confidence is obviously all important, especially in this situation as I guy for me to have a girlfriend I would have to be the one to ask, ive seen people judged awfully for it being the other way round but without confidence or self esteem that may be tricky, seeing as I wouldn’t think anyone would say yes, so if they aren’t going to say yes, why bother asking?

Obviously me being a bit of a cunt is also an issue, at times I do struggle with social interactions, I say the wrong thing at the wrong time, for example I see no issue using the word cunt, I dont like to because it doesnt exactly sound pleasant, but I dont see a problem with it, many people that I have met have a problem with this, Im aware of the fact that just to throw out the word cunt in everyday conversation is not really acceptable But I do it anyway, Just as I probably shouldnt casually mention the fact that I came very close to suicide or that I had clinical depression, but I just throw them out in regular conversation because I simply dont think. I have trouble speaking face to face to just a single person, I tend to have very little to talk about, id much rather talk as part of a group, which is fine in most situations but here, it presents a bit of a problem. This can be seen in the fact that pretty much the longest friendships I have ever had are the ones I have now, with mostly people whom I have met in the last 12 months.

I would also give a quick mention to another problem which has had a bearing on this, it is a simple principle, that if you are told something enough you will believe it, this brings up a problem, I said that I was bullied for around 14 years, the vast majority of it was appearance based, and because it was at schools, what was found funny by others tended to be a recurring theme, what came up for me was picking a particular trait, and explaining to me that that particular trait was the reason that I would die alone/that noone would ever love me.

So yeah, this is why I made the foreveralone bets, because I truly believe that I will ‘win’

Which ones? You always walk around wearing four jumpers (though that could be you being really sensitive to the cold, because both extremes count), and you’re pretty good with a ball.

Well going through the post, yes I can throw a ball but that has taken so very much practice, I can’t like hit or kick a ball (I tried playing both football and cricket because they were fun but I was bad enough to be bullied to the point where I quit both sports all together) Im pretty bad with things like musical instruments gaming etc. I struggle to walk in a straight line and often when I do I can lose balance while walking. My writing is so bad, I cant use cutlery properly, I was really late in learning to tie my shoelaces. I have really bad short term memory, for example, at secondary school we had to spend one day a year doing chores for the site team, they asked me to go through the next room and ask the person in there a question, in the action of opening and walking through the door I forgot the question. As you correctly observed im very sensative to cold. I get headaches very regularly often due to light, noise or dehydration. I have like minimal muscle strength and tend to have very little sleep. And as you already know the social problems and bullying.
